For any advertisement, a call to action is necessary to get the required response from the target audience. Think of it as your fishing hook. It can range from a simple “click here to find out more” to the blunter “Buy Now!” statement.
When it comes to designing a call-to-action, you can’t leave anything up to chance. The message needs to be clear, captivating and focused towards your target audience.
Here are seven simple tips on how to design a killer call to action CTA and to increase your pay-per-clicks:
1. Mind Your Language!
When it comes to Call to Action (CTA), it’s all about the language. It is important to keep the tone friendly and professional and go for a problem-solution approach, instead of an informative tone. Use verbs in your CTA and let your audience know what you want them to do, without using too many words. Be clear and concise. A good CTA might begin with the words “Buy, Shop, Order, Subscribe or Download”.
2. Be Enthusiastic
Be as enthusiastic as possible and offer benefits to the customer. For example, a good and enthusiastic Call to Action CTA might sound like “Subscribe Now and Get 50% off!” Notice how the sentence ends with an exclamation mark and offers reader-benefit. Who wouldn’t want to save their money?
3. Give Them a Reason
If you’re selling shampoos, why would you want people to buy from you? Is it because your shampoos are better? Is it because they contain some added chemicals or come in a better variety? Are they cheaper than the other brands? In other words, give your readers a reason to buy your product. Offer discounts, buy-one-get-one-free offers and other promotional material in your Call to Action CTA.
4. Create Fear
By fear, we don’t mean threatening them or putting up scary pictures; but rather, the fear of missing out on an opportunity also works as a marketing gimmick. If your product is seasonal in nature, you might want to design a CTA which reads “Buy Now till the Season Lasts!” This creates a fear of going out of stock in your readers’ minds and they’d want to rush up to your website to place bulk orders. Even if your product is abundant in supply, you can still use this technique and design the best CTA.
5. Customize It
With the rapid change in technology, more and more readers are becoming tech-savvy and the use of smart phones is at an all-time high. If your readers come across your brand name or advertisement, they’re most likely to search up more on your product using their mobile phones.
Imagine the horror if your Call to Action CTA is too large to fit in a mobile screen requiring the reader to scroll sideways to finish reading the message. No one would want to do that! Therefore, design a CTA that is mobile-friendly. Sometimes, leaving a “Call Us Today and Get Started” works wonders.
6. Be Creative
Don’t stick to clichés and stereotypes – try something new each time. Try meshing up your Call to Action CTA with more personalized, friendly and reader-oriented tone. A “Please Click Here” sounds robotic, but changing it to “Your life changing experience begins today” makes it sound exciting and appealing to your readers. Similarly, “Call Now to Place an Order” can be replaced with “For Hunger Emergencies, Dial…” Explore your creativity and come up with catchy one-liners and phrases when designing a CTA.
7. Use Numbers
Stating your product prices and discount offers in advertisements is not enough. It must be reflected in your Call to Action CTA as well. Not only will it reiterate your commitment to serve your customers better, it’ll also make them place an order. However, do not use too many numbers! A simple statement like; “Call today and Save 15% on Your Shipment Charges”; is better than “Call Today and Save up to 15% on Your Total Shipping Charges (5% on packing and 10% on delivery)”.
